    How to get into IIT?

To get into an IIT, your path depends entirely on the level of study you wish to pursue: * **For Undergraduate (B.Tech):** You must clear a two-tiered national entrance system. First, pass Class 12 with at least **75% marks**. Next, clear **JEE Main** to rank among the top 2.5 lakh candidates. Finally, crack **JEE Advanced**; your All India Rank directly determines your admission and branch allocation. * **For Postgraduate (M.Tech / PhD):** You skip the JEE entirely and must secure a high score in **GATE** (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), which tests specialized undergraduate engineering concepts, followed by potential interviews. * **For Management (MBA):** You must take the **CAT** (Common Admission Test). Most IIT business schools require a strong tech/engineering undergraduate background alongside a high CAT percentile. * **For Science (M.Sc):** You must crack **IIT JAM** (Joint Admission Test for Masters) if your background is in pure sciences like Math or Physics. Alternatively, IITs like IIT Madras now offer flexible, direct-entry **Online BS Programs** in Data Science or Electronic Systems, which bypass competitive exams in favor of a foundational qualifying course.
